Out with the Old, in with the New?

Out with the Old, in with the New?

New Year, time for resolutions and plans and looking to the future.  I spent part of my New Year’s Day organizing my needles.  I have to admit, I don’t take great care of my needles and of course, I’ve resolved to do better this year.

But one thing I have made good on is my resolve to rid myself of needles I don’t want to use.  Sometimes it’s hard to part with something that is still useful.  But, to quote Marie Kondo, the organizational expert, “To truly cherish the things that are important to you, you must first discard those that have outlived their purpose.

My Clover needles have outlived their purpose.  I don’t feel happy using them, and I find the join between the cord and the tip frustrating.  They are also quite dull.  As I write, they are sitting in the donate pile, along with other items that have also outlived their purpose.

Does this mean they need to be replaced?  Not really.  I have sufficient fixed needles and sets to do without them.  And if there is a needle missing here or there (or on a WIP), I’ll replace it with something I do cherish.  For me, that is usually Dreamz or Lykke wooden needles.

What do you have in your knitting bag that has outlived its usefulness?  What yarn do you have in your stash that you know you will never use?  Start the year with a resolution to rid yourself of things you do not cherish, or as Marie Kondo also says, don’t spark joy.  Joy is something we should all be cherishing.
